Tokenized equities: Ondo & xStocks boost liquidity and DeFi

Bitaigen Research Bitaigen Research 3 min read

Tokenized equities are scaling as Ondo and xStocks lead, offering liquidity, compliance, and DeFi composability that shape the future of this asset class.

We are witnessing tokenized equities entering a scale‑up phase, with Ondo and xStocks forming an early dual‑head structure. This article outlines how liquidity, regulatory compliance, and DeFi composability are shaping the competitive landscape, and examines the key drivers of industry consolidation, helping readers grasp the evolution logic of this emerging asset class.
Tokenized stocks break $1 billion, Ondo and xStocks dominate the industry

The on‑chain total market capitalization of tokenized equities has now surpassed $1 billion, a milestone that signals a new development stage for real‑world assets (RWAs) on blockchain. The latest statistics from RWA.xyz show that the value of tokenized stocks has crossed the billion‑dollar threshold for the first time, attracting higher trading volume and liquidity into this niche market.

Behind this wave of growth, the competitive landscape is beginning to take shape. Data indicates that Ondo controls roughly 58 % of the market, while tokenized equity products launched via xStocks account for about 24 %, creating an early “dual‑head monopoly” in the sector. A report released by Foresight Ventures on Tuesday highlighted regulatory barriers, liquidity advantages, and differing tokenization models as the primary factors driving industry consolidation.

Foresight Ventures investment partner Alice Li told *Cointelegraph* that the early leaders’ advantage stems from clear positioning in liquidity infrastructure, cross‑jurisdictional legal compliance, and DeFi composability. She explained: “Building these platforms requires robust liquidity layers, multi‑jurisdictional legal rights, and DeFi composability, and those three elements constantly pull on each other.” It was precisely because Ondo and xStocks committed early to specific technology and compliance pathways that they were able to stand out in the competition.

Marko Vidrih, co‑founder and COO of RWA.io, also emphasized that while breaking the $1 billion milestone is significant, the speed at which it was achieved is even more noteworthy. He pointed out: “Around 2,900 % growth over the past twelve months reflects the convergence of several forces—including the launch of major platforms, regulatory clarity, and the maturation of underlying infrastructure—making these products viable for retail users.”

The concentration trend observed in the broader DeFi space is also mirrored in the tokenized equity market. 0xngmi, founder of DeFiLlama, mentioned in a post on X that revenue across multiple DeFi sub‑sectors is increasingly being captured by the top two platforms. He cited platform data showing similar concentration patterns in stablecoins, derivatives, and decentralized exchanges.

Tokenized stocks surpass $1 billion, Ondo and xStocks dominate

The overall size of tokenized assets is expanding rapidly. According to RWA.xyz, after excluding stablecoins, the total value of tokenized RWAs has climbed to roughly $26 billion, indicating sustained demand for blockchain‑enabled traditional financial instruments. On February 26, the market cap of tokenized U.S. Treasury bonds alone exceeded $10.8 billion, and by the time of writing, the entire industry’s valuation had reached $11.13 billion, further confirming the upward momentum.

Trading activity is rising as well. Since the partnership launch in September 2025, which integrated the 1inch aggregator deeply with Ondo, cumulative trading volume for tokenized equities and exchange‑traded funds (ETFs) reached over $2.5 billion as of March 6. These figures underscore the practical feasibility and appeal of tokenized RWAs in real‑world use cases.

The phenomenon of tokenized equities breaking the $1 billion barrier, with Ondo and xStocks leading the sector, vividly illustrates the convergence of blockchain technology and traditional financial assets.
